Conceptual Voting System

Judge ME

Designer & Developer

Judge Me is a simple approval system created in response to the rise of social media. As millions of people use social media to express approval, our collective sense of judgement has been reduced to “like” or “dislike”. Often these decisions are made in seconds without thought of the outcome. As we reduce both the time given to decisions and their meaning, what do we lose?

Urban Design of Dynamic Maze

The Battle of Impermanency

In a dystopian, post-apocalyptic era, inhabitants are in strong ideological conflict with their authorities, and their opposition leads to persecution. This conceptual design attempts to create new spaces for the rioters and resistors by setting up a constantly evolving system under construction by autonomous robots.

Hotel Design

Hotel Kapok Shenzhen Bay

Shenzhen, China

Located adjacent to the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre athletic complex in Shenzhen, the new Hotel Kapok is a 19-story boutique hotel with 242 rooms. The design attempts to provide guests with a unique spatial quality that eliminates the cloistered and disorienting nature of typical hotel corridors. The resulting pinwheel plan allows for corridors that end in vision glass, with a punctuation of light and views.

Additionally, four three-story atriums rhythmically ascend up and around the hotel core, driving natural light deeper into the building, while also used to strategically organize amenities vertically throughout. The hotel’s exterior expression is unique, clad entirely in high-performance glazing, overlaid with a perforated metal scrim that provides shading and references a similar diamond-shaped pattern on the enclosure of the adjacent atheletic complex. Atriums reveal themselves as large voids in the scrim, and a rooftop garden and restaurant offer expansive views of the city, bay, and Hong Kong beyond.

Skyscraper Design

Nanning China Resources Center

Nanning, China

The 403-meter Nanning China Resources Tower is at the heart of Nanning’s financial district. The design of the tower is derived from its multiple uses, which include more than 170,000 square meters of Class A office space, nearly 6,000 square meters of retail, and a 336-key Shangri-La hotel. The mass of the building steps and tapers to accommodate the changing floor plans of the various uses, resulting in a form both efficient and identifiable.

The tower is designed to LEED-CS Gold standards, and the high-performance façade is one of many features holistically integrated to reduce the project’s environmental footprint, while providing a world-class level of comfort and quality.
